Iris Light Technologies, Inc.
Chicago, IL, United States
Dr. Chad Husko, Ph.D. is a scientist turned entrepreneur, and the Founder/CEO of Iris Light Technologies, Inc. Our vision is to accelerate the growth of the silicon photonics (‘light chip’) industry by solving ‘the silicon laser problem’ with our proprietary nanomaterial photonic ink leveraging printed electronics manufacturing techniques.
Dr. Husko has led research published in Nature Photonics, Nature Communications, and Nano Letters, among others. He has co-authored over 35 peer-reviewed papers, given 20+ seminars around the world, and has 4 issued patents. Husko has worked in a wide variety of research environments ranging from universities, government labs, and industrial companies. While a Fulbright Scholar, he was a researcher in the industrial R&D lab of the French defense company Thales in Paris, France. From these experiences, Husko has cultivated expertise in integrated photonics, semiconductor optical physics, and nanomaterials.
Select professional service contributions include inaugural class of Optica (OSA) ‘Ambassadors’ in 2016, chair of the Optica Lomb (Early Career) and Beller (Education) award committees, grant review panelist across technical and commercial spaces, and selection as an Optica Senior Member (2017) in recognition of his professional contributions.
Chad holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Applied Physics from Columbia University (New York, USA), and B.S. degrees in Physics and Mathematics from Loyola University Chicago. Chad’s love of languages led him to complete an M.A. and B.A. in Spanish from New York University and Loyola alongside his technical studies. When he’s not wearing the multiple hats of a start-up CEO, Chad can be found sailing on Lake Michigan.
