    Evann Smith, PhD, is the Digital Solutions Manager with Manufacturing & Technology (M&T). In this role, they are responsible for overseeing digital environment and integration of data throughout the business, including the utilization of big data and artificial intelligence (AI). The Digital Solutions team advances both internal digital delivery and external, customer-facing, digital development in support of integrated engineering, procurement, and construction.

    Since joining Bechtel, Evann has advanced state-of-the-art solutions for core processes, enterprise decision-making, and project technical challenges across all Bechtel’s business. They have applied their expertise to areas ranging from project execution to predictively identifying new opportunities and uncovering stakeholders and their preferences.

    They are an expert in data integration, machine learning, and algorithm development. Throughout a career in academia and industry, they have excelled in building innovative and data-driven solutions for real-world questions. Technical expertise like Evann’s is highly sought after by our customers, who are searching for ways to build and optimize the most efficient systems for their project execution and supply chain delivery.

    Evann has significant experience with AI and ML for optimization and predictive modeling. Prior to joining Bechtel, Evann developed AI and ML solutions for national security-critical challenges in the defense and intelligence communities. Evann earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Columbia University, a master’s degree in social sciences from the University of Chicago, and a doctorate in political science and quantitative methodologies from Harvard University. In 2019, Evann was elected a Bechtel Distinguished Technical Specialist.
