Sustainability Program Manager
TEL - Tokyo Electron US
Manassas, VA, United States
Sumi Maloney manages the sustainability program for Tokyo Electron U.S. Holdings, Inc. (TEL). In this role, she promotes sustainability throughout the US organization including research and development, supply chain, and manufacturing. Sumi works closely with TEL’s leadership team at headquarters for a global approach to sustainability, especially for human rights and the environment.
Her previous experience includes working in the public sector at Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), an organization that promotes economic and social development through Official Development Assistance (ODA). While working in Southeast Asia and West Africa, Sumi became aware of issues resulting from industrial activity such as de-forestation, e-waste dumping, and unhealthy labor conditions, especially problematic in vulnerable areas in the world. This has become the motivation for Sumi to contribute to the creation of a fair society and the maintenance of a healthy environment. In order to have more holistic solutions and to accelerate action, she believes strongly in public-private partnerships and industry-level collaboration.
Sumi is currently working on a new strategic initiative designed to improve overall sustainability for TEL U.S. and to engage all employees in solutions.
