Dr. Michael Brothers is a Technical Program Manager and Principal Scientist at BlueHalo working to support research withing the 711th Human Performance Wing at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Air Force Research Laboratories (AFRL). Here, Dr. Brothers serves as a subject matter expert for real-time and point-of-care analyte detection. Prior to joining BlueHalo, Dr. Brothers receved his doctorate in chemical biology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Brothers then worked for multiple start-ups that attempted to integrate electrochemical functionality into novel devices for multiple applications.
Dr. Brothers current research develops novel platforms and methods to identify compounds of interest in both the liquid phase and gaseous phase for both human and environmental samples. Dr. Brothers research particularly focuses on novel surface chemistries that enable selective, sensitive, reagentless detection of key analytes in biofluids and environmental samples. Most relevently, this includes his recently funded effort by NBMC to leverage a novel blend of semi-conductive ink-printed materials that coupled with novel polymeric and biopolymeric coatings can enable the next geneartion of flexible, wearable gaseous phase monitors.
