Dr Lisa-Marie Burns AVID CTE TUPE Coordinator Business and WASC Chair
Fremont Unified School District
Tracy, California, United States
As an educator and lifelong learner I have continued to grow in my own educational endeavors, completing a single subject credential in business (accounting-web design, and everything in between), an administrative services letter of eligibility, and a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership. My dissertation addresses the qualifications of CTE teachers and the need for hands-on knowledge in order to effectively teach applicable subjects. Whether you are a fan of common core state standards or not, I believe there is no argument that a teacher with hands on applicable knowledge of their subject matter transfers that knowledge to their students and seamlessly provides meaning to learning, answering the question Why?
My education and life philosophy is to learn from experience (good and bad) and to share those experiences with others when appropriate. There are multiple approaches and solutions to solve today’s societal problems just as there are multiple approaches and solutions to enhance and improve our focus as a country when it comes to business and enterprise. Knowledge is power only when shared. It is my goal to continue learning and sharing what I learn when it comes to the needs of all students today, whether they be entry level or top executive material, blue collar or white, any gender, any age, any level of education. Everyone has a place that adds value in today’s world, and as educator’s it is our sole responsibility to help students identify their place and achieve success at any level.
The focus of this FLEX presentation is to highlight what CTE means and how companies can collaborate with local school districts to ensure their future workforce is recieving current, releavant, and challenging education within all career fields. Project Based Learning is hands on learning and there is no better way to educate the workforce of tomorrow.
