Silex Microsystems, the world’s largest pure-play MEMS foundry, has over the last decade established itself as a market leader. Silex was the first MEMS foundry, alongside some of the world’s largest captive MEMS companies, to take the step to 8-inch wafer manufacturing back in 2008. Despite initial doubts about the viability of MEMS foundry on 8-inch, the success and growth of Silex 8-inch fab has established Silex as one of the few volume capable MEMS manufacturers in the world. With 4 separate litho tracks and some 20 DRIE chambers, Silex is undoubtedly one of the leading fabs for volume manufacturing of MEMS. In 2023, Silex acquired the industrial complex in Sweden, hosting Silex current fab as well as 3 additional fab footprints of equivalent size, which will secure Silex future growth in Sweden. This talk will present some of the drivers taking Silex to its current position and the drivers behind the plan to take MEMS foundry to 12-inch wafers.
