Integrated photonics technologies that use silicon and compound semiconductor materials are becoming increasingly popular in the microelectronics industry. This is due to their ability to provide high-performance data transport and their versatility in offering new functionalities for industries such as automotive and healthcare. This presentation will give a glimpse on the current state-of-the-art integrated photonics technology platforms. Emerging trends in the field of integrated photonics will be highlighted, specifically performance improvements through heterogeneous integration in integrated photonics and the co-integration of electronics and photonics using advanced packaging.
